Frances Bean Cobain makes her latest model debut as the face of Marc Jacobs’ Spring Summer 2017 campaign. 24 year-old Frances is the child of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. The model’s appearance is the latest in Marc Jacob’s continuing series of celebrity backed campaigns featuring actors and musicians.

In fact, for Marc Jacobs FW/16, Frances Bean Cobain’s mother, Courtney Love, fronted her very own campaign alongside rocker Marilyn Manson and model Cara Delevingne. In addition, the brand also cast stars like Missy Elliott and Winona Ryder for last Season’s campaigns.

Lensed by photographer David Sims, the grungy Marc Jacobs SS/17 campaign taps into the fascinating presence of Frances Bean Cobain. Shot in a black and white, minimal style all eyes are on the only child of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. It turns out that this isn’t Cobain’s first time in front of the camera. She actually made her debut back in 2011 starring in Saint Laurent’s Rock Diary, a visual project by Hedi Slimane. On Instagram, Marc Jacobs reveals that he has long been inspired by young Frances Bean Cobain.

“I first met Frances Bean when she was two years old at a dinner with her mom (Courtney) and Anna Sui in 1994 at Bar Six in NYC,” he posts. “I have always wanted to work with Frances. Her beauty, uniqueness, and strength is something I have long admired and respected. Few things remain as constant as my continued inspiration from those whose honesty, integrity, courage, and curiosity lead them to explore and venture beyond preconceived boundaries,” he continues.”

Frances reveals that she was inspired by dad Kurt Cobain in the campaign.“I find it interesting where grunge originated from, and then where it was taken, which was high fashion. My dad was so poor that they kept going to Goodwill to get donated ripped jeans. It wasn’t a fashion decision; it was an ‘I don’t have any money, I have no other choice’ type of decision. I have so much respect for David; he’s one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. He and Marc created an environment in which I felt like I was thriving and enjoying myself.” she tells American Vogue.
