Transgender model Andreja Pejic has lived through the biggest moments of her life in the public eye. From Andrej Pejic, an androgynous male model to Andreja, an outspoken transwoman, LGBTQ activist and top model. Years after her debut, Andreja continues to dominate. This time around becoming the first transgender model to cover GQ magazine. Fronting the men’s international title, GQ Portugal, the blonde beauty serves her signature surreal beauty on two ground-breaking covers.

Lensed by photographer Branislav Simoncik, Andreja Pejic is sure to make people everywhere take a second glance. Boldly titled, XX Cromossoma, its the scientific denotation for female in the Portuguese language. Though Pejic’s career has noticeably slowed since the announcement of her sexual reassignment surgery in 2014, she hasn’t lost her spirit. Inside the issue she opens us for an interview. “To be honest, I never expected this moment. GQ is such a classic and respected men’s magazine and, while I am very proud of everything I’ve achieved, my modeling career has been everything but classic. So, in a way, this is a meeting of two different worlds and it represents progress,” Pejic told GQ.

The model also playfully shares the news on her instagram account. “I’d say this cover represents me getting my long awaited revenge on all those boys who didn’t wanna hold hands in public when I was finding out about love for the first time. However all pettiness aside, MUITO OBRIGADO, to the good peeps at @GQPortugal for the award and this little moment in history. I only hope we can all increase the sorcery in 2017.”

Pejic’s GQ Portugal covers is the latest on her growing resume of historical transgender model moments. In May 2015, Andreja Pejic became the first openly transgender woman to appear in American Vogue.
